Many of the typical American high school experience should be modified to model small schools. The sports programs have not necessarily large, optional courses are limited and the possibility of extra-curricular activities rarely rise above a dozen. Not enough teachers or moderate, or students who participate consistently.
But even in the restricted model, we found ways to make our students exposure to the world outside the school to offer.
My study abroad school is an attempt
Over the past two years, young, small and high for a public high school, I learned to be able to help students from abroad to take the first Costa Rica and Honduras for a short learning experience. This year was the proposal in the Middle East.
Even if this proposal is a major leap in scale, are proud to have enough teachers in the school care for students, exploring other countries to think that too. A handful of new teachers, a great step forward and volunteer carers.
My experience of studying abroad
I remember my first study abroad experience, which occurred in high school. Although I was too young, naive and ethnocentric to take a lot of things that my world view to a fundamental change in the return. Why Study Abroad
Strange as it may seem, I want my students to have this epiphany awkward but powerful. With someone to talk to them about the world, can never compare actual experience yourself. A surprising number of my students rarely out of the Bronx, let alone in New York City. While many of them are bilingual, are just two cognitive (word I can, but not limited to form, which means being able to think more lenses).
